Terminology on axonometry/isometry is a bit confusing, but we can broadly distinguish between linear perspective and axonometry. These are the only two projection system that have been developed in history and the only two system the can project a coherent pictorial space. Both systems have many variants, but these are foundational. A superb article on the subject is from Bois — Metamorphosis of Axonometry. You will not find a better piece on the subject.
